Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council was established as a Welsh Unitary Authority from the 1st April 1996 and became responsible for the delivery of the full range of Local Government Services.

The Authority is the largest employer in the area and employs over 4,000 members of staff across 4 service directorates, each headed by a Corporate Director with overall strategic responsibility for the delivery of the Council’s key priorities. The Chief Executive and the Corporate Directors meet on a weekly basis and make up Corporate Management Team.
