Legal Services is a Division of the Governance Directorate and the Chief Legal & Corporate Support Officer is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Division. The Division comprises of a team of qualified and unqualified personnel who undertake a range of duties both legal and administrative providing a comprehensive legal service to the Council. The Division also includes an estate management and valuation service for the Council.

The service is mainly an internal support service and service delivery needs to be planned based upon the needs of internal clients. The Division does provide some direct services to the public principally in the form of Council house sales and the sale, purchase, leasing, renting of land and property.

The Division’s key objective is to provide a complete, quality service, which is comprehensive and effective and satisfies the needs of all customers.

The Chief Legal Officer is the Council’s Monitoring Officer in accordance with Section 5 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
