What do we do

  • Have in place a People Strategy, which reflects the aims and objectives of the Council.
  • Provide a comprehensive recruitment, selection and employment service for all categories of employees.
  • Ensure equality of opportunity in all employment practices.
  • Provide a pay structure and related terms and conditions of employment, which will be based on national conditions and supplemented and varied by local agreements.
  • Oversee an industrial relations and consultation framework which is based on sound, well-understood and documented agreements and procedures incorporating discipline, grievance, and the management of performance.
  • Provide effective communication and specialist advice to members, managers and employees on all aspects of the Human Resources function.
  • Provide corporate advice on departmental structures and organisational reviews and to maintain the graded structure through the application of Job Evaluation and the application of termination procedures.
  • Develop and monitor core HR strategies, policies and procedures
  • Provide an interpretation service on the authority’s core policies and procedures including absence management, occupational health and counselling provision
