Co-ordination of major regeneration projects including: -

  • Re-development of the former Dunlop Semtex site, Brynmawr.
  • Re-development of the former Tin Plate Works site, Ebbw Vale.
  • Rail link between Ebbw Vale and Cardiff.
  • Town Centre developments.
  • The duelling of the Heads of the Valley trunk road.
  • Cwm by-pass road.
  • Llanhilleth regeneration programme to 2006.  In September 2004, the new School opened as part of this project.
  • Biodiversity Projects including - Local Nature Reserves, sites of importance for Nature Conservation.
  • Management of the Green Network and implementation of the Intermediate Labour Market Initiative (ILM).
  • Securing of Objective One funding for the Jobmatch programme.
  • Implementation of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.
  • The new build i.e. Valleys Information and Technology Education Centre (VITEC).
  • The transfer of Monwel Hankinson Signs & Services business to the Regeneration portfolio provides a programme of support to people with disability into or back into the world of work.
  • Attraction of substantial amounts of grant aid from the European Objective One Programme.
