The Housing Services Division's main functions include effectively managing the Authority’s housing stock and providing an efficient, cost effective repairs service to its tenants. It is committed to improving its services in line with the needs and preferences of its tenants and to increasing their participation in the decision making processes for the service.
It takes its direction from the key strategic aim as per the agreed Community Plan for the area:
"to ensure that quality affordable accommodation is accessible and available within sustainable communities ‘for all residents’
Housing Services has recognised the affect that affordable, good quality housing in well managed estates impacts on a number of socio-economic issues that affect the people of the area, i.e. health issues and social inclusion. It has acknowledged that creating places where people want to live long term has benefits for the communities involved in those areas and the service itself. It is therefore committed to the long-term objective of:
Regenerating housing estates and improving the sustainability of the communities within those estates, through a programme of refurbishment of existing housing stock, the eradication of obsolete housing, supporting community groups and community based projects and working with partner organisations to achieve shared goals.
